Heyla, Misty fans!
Our hearts go out to everyone who has been hurt by Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. If any QO members/friends/family are in need as a result of this disaster, please contact me at Legend@malcor.com. We’ll do what we can to get aid for you. Additionally, here’s a message from Mercedes Lackey and Larry Dixon:
"Sept. 1
"I'm an experienced emergency worker [7 yrs volunteer firefighter, 2 yrs stormspotter & CERT (Civilian Emergency Response Team)]. Mercedes Lackey and I have an existing charitable foundation we are turning towards the effort of helping the fantasy, scifi, and roleplaying games fans hit by Katrina.
"When Katrina was coming in, I packed up my rescue gear for activation, and began putting together a civilian relief convoy to help out the Gulf Coast fandom. The high-level dispatch I saw today is, in as many words, ‘Nobody Goes In’ during the continued, and perhaps complete, evacuation of the Gulf Coast. The only aid people that are being specifically asked for at the moment, through my channels, are fast water rescue teams.
"So, the angle of the fan/pro/gamer aid effort I've been assembling is now shifting on the fly---from one of going in with supplies for those who stayed and pulling out those left homeless, to instead, locating the fans who HAVE evacuated, and relocating them to places they can get back on their feet. We'll be taking some in ourselves up here in Oklahoma. We have room and resources in house for six or so people and our contractor is readying to rebuild the garage into a bunkhouse to accommodate up to 22 at any one time.
"E-mail will ALWAYS work best for sending information to me. Studio number phone number is 918-343-9462. IMs/SMS: gryphongryn at Y!M, 31317565 on ICQ, gryphgryphgryph on AIM. If you can get word in directly to any fans/pros/gamers in need, get this info to them. If they can make no other contact, tell them that if they can make it to Exit 255 on I-44 in Oklahoma, they're ten minutes from us and we have space ready. And if they can only get partway, we will make sure someone can rendezvous and bring them in. Let NO ONE be bashful or self-conscious right now---this is not a situation of either pride or pity. If someone needs a roof, get'em to tell us. If someone has a roof, tell us. Share this whole message with whoever you think will be interested.
"The website may angle, as it develops, towards a ‘placement service forum’ system where we try to unite people who need a home with households that they'd fit in with. And prevent unfortunate matches, such as the realistic situation of someone who has good intentions but isn't really economically able to take someone in---so they both sink. Fandom is a VERY tight-knit group, and in this case, that could be a vital advantage, if contact info can travel at the usual speed of rumor.
"We are all family because of our passions. Possibly the most valuable thing that gamers, fans and pros can give each other in these times is a gift beyond price: the knowledge that in tragedy as much as in joy, their fellows are there for them with open hearts and open arms.
"I'll get more info to you as soon as I can.
"Yours, Larry Dixon"
In October look for the paperback of Phoenix and Ashes as well as the hardcover release of The Wizard of London (Elemental Masters series).
In November, Misty is among the authors who contributed to Winter Moon : Moontide\The Heart Of The Moon\Banshee Cries.
Lots of choices are available this year for that Misty fan on your holiday gift list. Crossroads and Other Tales of Valdemar will be out in early December, as will Music to My Sorrow (with Rosemary Edghill for the Bedlam’s Bard series). The Wizard of Karres should be out in early December as well.
Misty’s frantic pace of publication continues in 2006. One Good Knight, Misty’s next contribution to Harlequin’s fantasy line, hits the shelves in January. To Light a Candle, from the Obsidian Trilogy, which is written with James Mallory, will appear in paperback in January as well. Also in January, look for Mapping the World of Harry Potter, a book that Misty has edited for the Smart Pop series. Stoned Souls, written with Josepha Sherman, will be out in February.
Herald Enyo sent the following notice:
"Bestselling author of the Wheel of Time series Robert Jordan will be speaking about and signing Knife of Dreams. Knife of Dreams will be the second to last book in the highly acclaimed Wheel of Time series. In Knife of Dreams the dead are walking, men are dying impossible deaths, and it seems as though reality itself has become unstable: all are signs of the imminence of the last Battle, when Rand al'THor, the Dragon Reborn, must confront the Dark One as humanity's only hope.
"Following are the guidlines for this event:
"I don't know if we have many members in this area, but if we do and they're interested in coming the store is at 313 New York Ave., Huntington, NY, 11743. Our phone number is 631-271-1442. If anyone has questions give us a call. Mon-Fri from 9am-5pm Eastern you can ask for Anne, and you'll get me; otherwise anyone you talk to should be able to answer questions about the event. Just tell them I sent you!
"Usually at these events the author also signs stock, and we will have a list of people who phone in and want a book signed but aren't able to actually be at the event. You should know that people who are at the store will get their books signed first and if we run out of copies we may be able to get book plates signed for more books, or those people may not be able to get their request signed. I'm going to try and influence buying a really large stock of books, so if people are interested start calling the store or e-mail me (HeraldEnyo@gmail.com) or respond to what I post on the chat so I can prove we have a lot of interest.
"If you have your own personal hard copies that you want to bring to the store and get signed, that's fine as long as you buy the new book at Book Revue."
Zhai’helleva,
Herald-Mage Adept Danya Winterborn

For definitions of our fannish jargon, read the 12-page booklet "Pros & Cons: An Introduction to Fandom" written by Elizabeth Barrette. Send $1.00 and a $0.37 stamp (or $1.00 and 2 IRCs) to Queen's Own, P.O. Box 749, Laguna Beach, CA, 92652. Make checks payable to "Linda Malcor" in US funds only.
For orders shipping in the US, I've instituted a maximum shipping cost of $3.85. Multi-zine orders, which can be shipped in a flat rate envelope (usually 3 of the smaller zines, or 2 of the larger zines), will be sent Priority Mail; larger orders will be sent Media Mail Insured, which is only slightly slower and doesn't have the zone rates (which wouldn't work with my shopping cart). Smaller orders will be sent First Class.
I take credit cards via PayPal, which is the cart's only payment option, but the cart can be used to calculate shipping, and checks/money orders mailed to Green Dragon Press, c/o Devin Harris, 4531 N. Kelishan St., Pahrump, NV 89060.
Except as noted, zines are printed on high-quality, bright white paper, comb bound, with cardstock covers. Story excerpts and cover art-as well as submission guidelines and PayPal ordering information-can be found at http://www.greendragonpress.net/misty.htm. To order via snail mail, send check or money order (payable to Devin Harris; US funds only) to Green Dragon Press, c/o Devin Harris, 4531 N. Kelishan St., Pahrump, NV 89060.
Note regarding Shards of Autumn: While this zine is officially out of print and no longer available on the website, a few copies are left over from convention appearances. Any remaining copies from MediaWest will be available at that con until they sell out; the others are being returned to me and will be auctioned off at http://www.auctionfen.com until they are gone. I also occasionally auction off zines which returned from cons a bit shopworn, so it’s a good site to check periodically.
We have individual handouts for aspiring Heralds, Healers, Bards, Blues, Mercenaries, Tayledras, Shin'a'in, and White Winds Sorcerers/Sorceresses and instructions on how to work for Herald-Mage status if you are already a Herald or for a Kal'enedral if you are already a Shin'a'in. You can find these handouts online at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qohandouts.htm.
You need a release form (online at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qomlrel2.htm) if you write a story set in Misty's worlds or using any of her characters. You do not need a release for a character sketch, poem or filk. All Misty wants to do is protect her characters and her worlds. Send the release form (you do NOT need to include the story) to Misty c/o High Flight Arts and Letters, P.O. Box 2970, Claremore, OK 74017. Do NOT include the original of the release form with your persona material; send it to Misty. Send a copy to us.
All personae materials should be sent to the QO address or submitted by e-mail to Legend@malcor.com and healermoon@gmail.com.
We have no new personae to announce this month, but several people are very close to completion. If you were working on a persona who is no longer listed at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qochat.htm that means we have not heard from you in over a year. To revive your persona, simply message Danya at Legend@malcor.com and tell her that your persona is in "Deep Storage." She will pull it out for you and reactivate your submission.
If you are a returning member who has recently activated your membership in Queen’s Own and we have forgotten to list you, message Danya at Legend@malcor.com, and she’ll make sure you are greeted in the next newsletter.
One of the challenges running an online club is that people don’t always leave a forwarding address when they move
If you know any of these folks, please have them contact Danya at Legend@malcor.com with a current e-mail address.
School is starting, and we’re hitting the ground running here in Southern California. That means I’m into another cycle of birthdays and holidays from now until next April <G>. At least there are a ton of new Misty books on the horizon to help me with my gift shopping! I’m looking forward to getting back my four free hours twice a week when all the kids are in school. I love them dearly, but I’m not getting much in the way of writing done while they’re all at home <g>. (I really need to start cranking out the chapters on the Sword in the Stone book!) My eighteen-year-old goddaughter just went off to college . . . (My husband and I have spent a lot of time this summer suddenly feeling old <g>.)
We had a lovely vacation at Lake Tahoe this August. My mother was able to travel with us this year, so that meant my husband and I were able to attend a production of MacBeth at the Shakespeare Festival on the shore of the lake in Incline Village. Quite fun! I highly recommend this festival if you’re ever in the area. We also visited Sutter’s Mill, which I’d been driving by for decades without ever taking the eight-mile road to the site. It was really fun to see the spot where the California gold rush started.
We managed to get up to Virginia City, Nevada for one day while we were in Tahoe. My eldest son, Joe, dragged me on a mine tour (not my favorite thing in the world, since I’m extremely claustrophobic). John adored our ride on the Virginia and Truckee railroad (There was quite a festival going on this year.). The new museum at St. Mary’s in the Mountains was open; the kids loved going through all the artifacts and picking out the images of the Bible stories they’ve been learning. There’s a fabulous ice cream store on C Street, where we all indulged in wickedly delicious confections (There was even sugar free ice cream and candy for the diabetics in our group.). No thunderstorms this year, either, which made driving much less nerve wracking!
Only finished reading the first story in Bedlam’s Edge (It was too bright to read on the shore of the lake this year; we usually have a few more clouds <g>.), but that was quite good. I hope to get to the rest of the book soon.
The next Harry Potter movie, Goblet of Fire, opens in November. Message me at Legend@malcor.com if you will be in Southern California and are interested in a group QO trip to see the film. (My eldest son is a huge fan. He’ll be having a Harry Potter theme for his birthday party this year.)

Danya
